The North Eastern Railway Dynamometer Car is a preserved railway dynamometer car. Originally built in 1906 by the North Eastern Railway at Darlington Works, its role was to scientifically measure the performance of trains in order to effect improvements thereto.

In 1923 it was acquired by the LNER, and was used extensively under Sir Nigel Gresley.

In 1938 it was used in the LNER’s speed record runs behind LNER Class A4 (Mallard). During the war it was kept in storage. After the war, having been acquired by British Railways, it was used in the 1948 Locomotive Exchange Trials.

It is currently part of the National Railway Collection and is located in the National Railway Museum in York.

An OO gauge RTR model (this model) has been produced by Rapido, under commission from Rails of Sheffield
